The development of harmony between mind and body is a onerous task for people in 21st century. The productivity of a person is based on this harmonious relationship. The pre Vedic period stressed on this harmony and hence included yoga as one of the 6 philosophical studies. Fitness is nothing but the technical term defining this mind body relationship.

People have wrong perception about fitness.  They think it is about going to gym for lifting heavy weights and developing a body like cartoon character jhonny bravo, but they fail to realize that they are unable to control their emotions and thoughts because they haven’t developed that mind body connect.  Fitness is not only about exercising but it is about regulating our daily lifestyle, whose key is in the mind. For example an officer is considered FIT for a job only if he is capable of coordinating his mental emotions. Physical and emotional requirements for the job in the right way, any imbalance in these three will lead to a downfall and makes him UNFIT to take crucial decisions.

As said earlier fitness needs to be achieved through proper combination of 3 components nutrition, regular exercise and rest. Our daily food intake defines how active we stay throughout the day. If we can observe , the one who intakes a wholesome diet like fruits , veggies and proteins through milk, meat and eggs  daily,  is more productive and has good  presence of mind compared to one who intakes a fat dominant diet like junk  and fast food . Exercise is the most important aspect that influences our mind. One who regularly jogs for 5/6 km / day or hits the gym in the evening will experience hormone variations in his body. It stimulates the hypothalamic- pituitary- adrenaline axis which relaxes you from stress and anxiety, it improves your thinking and cognitive abilities. Running will improve your WILL power, because if a person runs for 1km today, he has the urge to run more and reach his target  for that particular week, and he constantly puts in more effort to reach  that target , this motivates him to work more and improves his will power to reach other targets in his life.
